What a way to mark NYCFCâs return to Yankee Stadium!
David Villa has been recognized for his stellar showing in the Home Opener with a place in the MLS Team of the Week.
NYCFC defeated DC United with a 4-0 victory on Sunday to claim the first win of the season and the captain played an instrumental role.
El Guaje scored two and assisted another, earning him the in-stadium Man of the Match award and a place in the leagueâs Team of the Week.
Villa told NYCFC.com: âWe are so happy with the day. I want to thank all of the supporters who came out on such a cold day and helping us.
âWe played well from the first minute, we built up from the back well and we kept the ball. We scored a lot of goals and itâs not easy to win 4-0 in this league. Weâre so happy to give the first three points to the team.â
Maxi Moralez, who notched his first goal and claimed his first assist, is also recognized with a place on the bench.
Earlier in the day, it was announced that Maxi is also in the running for the AT&T MLS Goal of the Week award.
