McNamara had 52% of the votes, beating out New Englandâs Chris Tierney (14%) and DCâs Michael Barrios (13%).
The midfielder was quick to react after a David Villa volley ricocheted off the crossbar. McNamara rushed to the ball and headed it into the back of the net to score his second goal of the 2016 season. For the 25-year-old it was the first time in his MLS career that he has scored with his head.

The midfielder did admit it wasnât the prettiest finish.
"In terms of pure finish it probably wasnât the most impressive. But I think people voted for it because of the play that led up to the finish, with Iraolaâs back heel, Tony Taylorâs chip and David Villa ripping the ball off the crossbar, that was all an impressive build up play."
NYCFC would eventually play New England to a 1-1 draw. NYCFC returns to the pitch on Sunday, April 10 to take on the Chicago Fire at Yankee Stadium. Get your tickets today.
