New York City FC welcomed 48,047 fans to Yankee Stadium for their rivalry match against the Red Bulls on Sunday evening.
The sellout crowd was the highest home attendance ever for the Club.
Despite the result â a 3-1 loss â head coach Jason Kreis praised the support, not just on the night, but the continued backing throughout New York City FCâs inaugural season in Major League Soccer.
âAbsolutely remarkable, itâs been unbelievable,â Kreis said. âAll of us, as participants in this type of match, and participants in this league right now, we can be incredibly thankful that the fans have continued to come out here and support us so loudly and so proudly. I keep saying, and I hope that the fans believe me, that weâre going to give back. Itâs only a matter of time, but weâre going to keep giving back.â
Midfielder Mix Diskerud echoed his coachâs sentiments on the supporters.
âItâs been incredible this whole week,â Mix said. âI had so many fans that were reaching out about this game and supporting us. It really feels good when we have so many people standing behind us and chanting."
